SETH and the blackish castle of dark

  POSTMORTEM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please don't judge this entry.
I've had too much problems and time was running out so I abandoned it.

The collision detection is all screwed up (object to map and object to
object) and the game object display also only works because of some ugly hacks.
The code is a mess and is the worst I've ever written (don't use singletons
if you have 1) only 48hours and 2) never used them before).

What this game would've been:
The idea was that you are a demon (the eyes on the left side of the screen) and
you are captured in an old castle.
You can't see in the dark and it's pitch black, so your only hope is a little ghost
carrying around a torch. But the problem is that light kills you and the castle is
full of traps. On top of it the ghost is moving really fast. And you don't know
wether he want's to get out of the castle or just annoy you.

The gameplay would've been like:
The ghost flies through the level and you have to follow him. But he's fast and the
castle is full of traps, so you have only little time to avoid the traps. (You can
only see them when the ghost's light reveals them)
Something like a dextertiy (wrong word?) jump'n'run.

To help the player he can collect gold and throw coins. The ghost will fly back to
catch the coins.

The goal of the game is escaping from the castle and gather as much gold as possible.
(gold + time => score)

But as you can see I got nowhere near my idea.
What you can see here is rather a techdemo of how the look of the game'd ve been.

CONTROLS:

cursor left/right/up: move/jump (really broken)
mouse: move the ghost
e: toggle object placement
left mousebutton: place object (only when object placement is on)
right mousebutton: toggle object to place (only when object placement is on)

In the finished game you would only control the demon (jump, left, right, crouch,
toss coin).

After all I think the gameplay might've been turned out funny (but I'm not sure).
However things are too broken to ever continue this.

The whole compo was still fun though.
Thanks everyone for this awesome two days!
Special thanks to X-Out, who showed me how to achieve this lightning effect and
tonic for his awesome library turska.

See you next time!
